A power supply for generating DC voltage and current based on an AC power input (Vi), which power supply comprises at least one rectifier (D1) adapted to be connected to the AC power input, which rectifier is adapted to be connected to at least one high voltage capacitor (Ci1), which power supply further comprises at least one low voltage capacitor (Ci2), which low voltage capacitor is adapted to be connected through at least one first switch (S1), which high voltage capacitor is adapted to be connected to at least one DC-DC converter, wherein characterized in that the DC-DC converter comprises at least one transformer (T1), which transformer comprises at least one primary coil (N1) and at least a first and a second secondary coils (N3, N2), which first secondary coil is adapted to be connected through at least one semiconductor (D5), which second secondary coil is adapted to be connected through a semiconductor (D3) and a second switch (S2) to the low voltage capacitor, which low voltage capacitor is formed as a capacitor bank.
