Abstract
A display module with infra-red (IR) light emitting capabilities is disclosed. A display module in a housing may have IR light emitting capabilities. The display module may include a transmissive display element. IR light emitted by an IR illuminant formed at an edge of the display module housing may be optically coupled to the display element using a dispersive element. An IR shutter may be interposed between the dispersive element and the display element. Control circuitry may configure the IR shutter to filter IR light in selected regions of the IR shutter. An image of a scene may be captured while the scene is illuminated by IR light emitted through the IR filter and the display element using an image sensor. The image sensor may be external to the display module housing, or it may be formed inside the display module housing and receive light incident on the display element.
