Abstract

A ground phyllosilicate mineral may include particulate talc having a d50 in the range of from 0.5 to 10 μm and a shape factor of from 10 to 100. A method for grinding a particulate inorganic material may include providing an aqueous suspension including a particulate phyllosilicate mineral having a shape factor less than 60. The method may further include grinding the aqueous suspension to form a ground product, wherein the particulate phyllosilicate mineral is present in the aqueous suspension in an amount greater than 55% by weight, and wherein the phyllosilicate mineral is talc. The ground phyllosilicate mineral may be used as a coating pigment or as a filler, or as part of a coating or a filler composition in the preparation of paper, card, board, cardboard, writing paper, printing paper, polymers, rubbers, plastics, plastic films, paints, sealants, mastics, or ceramics.
