An induction pan for an induction cooking appliance includes an electromagnetically contoured induction layer, wherein the electromagnetically contoured induction layer is ferromagnetic and electrically conductive. The induction pan includes a vessel having a base, a sidewall extending from the base and defining a rim, an interior surface defining an inner volume, and an exterior surface. The vessel is at least partially translucent. The electromagnetically contoured induction layer is engaged to at least one of the interior surface and the exterior surface of the vessel proximate the base, and is in thermal communication with the inner volume.
