Abstract
This invention pertains to a thermal treatment process for converting azo crosslinks in an azo-crosslinked fluoropolymer having perfluoroether pendant groups to perfluoroalkyl crosslinks. The perfluoroalkyl crosslinks exhibit greater thermal and chemical stability than to the azo crosslinks. According to the treatment, an azo-crosslinked fluoropolymer having perfluoroether pendant groups is subject to heating in the temperature range of 300 to 350° C. in order to effect a high degree of conversion to the perfluoroalkyl-crosslinked fluoropolymer.
