Abstract
An absorbent pad is provided having three or more adjacent modules as a treatment system that modifies the atmosphere in a container to prolong life and the physical/sensory characteristics of cut flowers at all stages of storage and transport. Each module of the absorbent pad of the present disclosure is a discrete absorbent pad in itself that contains an active agent, such as a CO2 generation system or a SO2 generation system. A method is provided for pre-wetting the outer modules without wetting the inner module to increase the duration and effectiveness of the active agents in the absorbent pad.
