A method for dewatering dispersions of suspended solids by flocculation, using a polymeric flocculant, includes the steps of sequentially adding to the dispersions: at least one water soluble, anionic linear polymer having a molecular weight of at least 1×106 g/mol; and a blend of a water-soluble, cationic structured first polymer having a molecular weight of at least 1×106 g/mol, and a water-soluble, cationic linear second polymer having a molecular weight of at least 1×106 g/mol.
