The present invention addresses the problem of providing a nonwoven fabric for semipermeable membrane supporting body, which gives fine MD curl when a semipermeable membrane coating liquid is coated on the supporting body (nonwoven fabric) and cured, and a method for producing the nonwoven fabric. The nonwoven fabric for semipermeable membrane supporting body according to the present invention is a nonwoven fabric containing organic synthetic fibers as a primary component, wherein a semipermeable membrane is to be supported by one surface of the nonwoven fabric, wherein when the nonwoven fabric on which a semipermeable membrane is to be coated is separated into a layer on the side of the semipermeable membrane-coated surface and a layer on the side of the non-semipermeable membrane-coated surface by delaminating the nonwoven fabric into two layers in the thickness direction, the layer on the side of the semipermeable membrane-coated surface is 35% by mass or more and 70% by mass or less with respect to the total of the layer on the side of the semipermeable membrane-coated surface and the layer on the side of the non-semipermeable membrane-coated surface.
