In one aspect the monitoring system (100) includes a sensor device (110), mounted in an area (2000), for sensing a person in the area (2000); a monitoring device (120), in communication with the sensor device (110), for: receiving data indicative of one or more sensor signals from the sensor device (110); monitoring the sensor signals to determine if one or more rules are satisfied; and in the event that one or more of the rules are satisfied, communicating with one or more devices to request assistance for the person.
