Abstract
In a multi-piece solid golf ball having a core, at least one intermediate layer encasing the core and a cover of at least one layer encasing the intermediate layer, each intermediate layer is formed primarily of a resin material and each layer of the cover is formed primarily of an ionomer resin. The cover has a Shore D material hardness of not more than 58, and the material hardness of the cover is higher than the material hardness of the intermediate layer. The intermediate layer and the cover have a combined thickness of not more than 2.1 mm. The cover has a smaller thickness than the intermediate layer, the ratio (a)/(b) of the cover thickness (a) to the intermediate layer thickness (b) being at least 0.5 and less than 1.0.
