The invention concerns a fuel tank made of thermoplastic material with at least one sheet-like stiffening element (1) which is connected to the tank wall, consists of material that has a higher modulus of elasticity than the base material of the fuel tank and which is connected to the fuel tank with interlocking engagement on the outer side thereof, the stiffening element (1) not being completely enclosed by the base material of the outer tank wall.
