A metallized scanner-sensitive film having a shiny appearance but capable of being optically scanned, as well as a method of manufacture and method of using in packaging; the film comprising at least one metal-adhering skin layer having a first outside surface and an inside surface; a metal layer deposited onto the outside surface of the skin layer; the film having: an optical density within the range of from 0.50 to 1.60; an oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of less than 60 cm3/m2/24 hours; and a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of less than 0.60 g/m2/24 hours.
