Abstract

A nerve identification device is shown and described. The device includes both a nerve stimulating electrode and a skin marking device. In certain applications, a user contacts the patient's skin with the nerve stimulating electrode to deliver nerve stimulation energy that evokes an electrical response from proximally located motor nerves. When nerves are detected, the user applies skin ink via the device to the user's skin to identify the location where nerves were found for subsequent use in a variety of therapeutic procedures such as surgical procedures, pain treatment procedures, degenerative nerve destruction procedures, and the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
