Abstract
An image display device which displays a three-dimensional image without alternately displaying right and left eye images, and utilizes substantially the same light for both two- and three-dimensional displays. The image display device includes: an LED light source having no polarization characteristics; a collimator lens collimating light from the LED light source; a condenser lens focusing the collimated light; a first polarizing prism separating the light transmitted by the condenser lens into S-polarized light and P-polarized light; a first polarized image former forming a P-polarized image from the S-polarized light reflected from the first polarizing prism; a second polarized image former forming an S-polarized image from the P-polarized light transmitted by the first polarizing prism; a second polarizing prism combining the P-polarized image and the S-polarized image; a projection lens projecting the combined image; and a screen.
