The invention relates to a method for reducing the tar content in gases resulting from a thermochemical gasification process of carbon-containing starting material and includes contacting of at least a part of the gas obtained from the gasification process with a catalyst containing noble metals, wherein the noble metals include at least two noble metals selected from the group consisting of Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Os, Ru and Re.
