, wherein Z is a monovalent cation; Y is selected from CONH, NHCO, COO, OCO, NHCONH and O; l is 0 or 1; m is an integer from 1 to 10; and n is an integer from 1 to 5, The use of the composition for the development of radiation-sensitive positive- or negative-printing plate precursors depresses sludge formation associated with the presence of the triarylmethane dyes, thereby increasing developing capacity, and also prevents coloration of components in the developing section of the processor caused by the presence of such dyes.
