More particularly, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and cosmetic composition for preventing and treating skin disease, comprising 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-beta-D-glucose represented by formula 1 as an active ingredient. Also, the invention relates to a method for preventing and treating skin disease using 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-beta-D-glucose, and to the use of 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-beta-D-glucose.
