Abstract
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for more efficiently differentiating CD34.sup.+ cells derived from umbilical cord blood into megakaryocytic lineage cells and for generating platelets. Coculture of CD34.sup.+ cells derived from umbilical cord blood with immortalized stromal cells in the presence of cytokines has enabled cell proliferation up to the 100,000-fold level, which has been impossible to achieve to date.
