A description is given of coating compositions comprising at least one pigment and/or filler and at least one aqueous dispersion of a selected emulsifier-stabilized vinyl ester copolymer which comprises as its stabilizer a mixture of at least one nonionic emulsifier and at least one salt of a bisester of a sulfonated dicarboxylic acid having 4 to 8 carbon atoms. The coating compositions formulated with these binders feature high scrub resistance.
