A process for the purification and recovery of Tacrolimus (I) (17-allyl-1,14-dihydroxy-12-[2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxycyclohexyl)-1-methyvin-yl]-23,25- dimethoxy-13,19,21,27-tetramethyl-11,28-dioxi-4-azatricyclo-[22-.3.1.0.sup.4.9]octacos-18-en-2,3,10,16-tetraone), starting from Streptomyces sp fermentation broth. The process is particularly advantageous in terms of productivity and selectivity of the separation of impurities.
