Abstract
A cryosurgical system and a cryoprobe having a disposable portion for use in such a system. A representative cryoprobe for use in a cryosurgical system can have a disposable portion that connects via a coupler to a non-disposable portion that is permanently attached to the cryosurgical system. A vacuum pump located in a control console of the cryosurgical system can be used to remove air that is introduced into the system when the disposable portion is connected to the non-disposable portion. Refrigerant can then be circulated through the system so that a cryothermal treatment can be performed. After the cryothermal treatment, the refrigerant can be removed from the cryoprobe and stored in a storage reservoir in the control console. Upon completion of the cryosurgical treatment, the disposable portion can then be detached and discarded.
