The invention discloses benzoxazole compounds which are represented by the following formula (1): in which R.sup.1-R.sup.4 stand for H, halogen, NO.sub.2, CN, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-4 haloalkoxy, C.sub.2-5 alkanoyl, formyl, C.sub.2-6 alkoxycarbonyl, carboxyl or the like; R.sup.5 stands for C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl, CN; R.sup.6 stands for H, halogen, CN, C.sub.1-4 haloalkyl; R.sup.7 stands for H, halogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl; R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 each independently stands for H, C.sub.1-4 alkyl; R.sup.10 stands for halogen, CN, R.sup.12X where R.sup.12 stands for C.sub.1-10 alkyl, C.sub.1-6 haloalkyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.2-7 alkanoyl, formyl and X stands for O, S and which are useful as herbicide.
