Catalyst containing tin oxide, palladium and a carrier oxide, characterized in that tin oxide and palladium are present on the carrier oxide in a roentgenographically amorphous or a nanoparticular form or that the carrier oxide is present in a nanoparticular form or that both tin oxide and palladium and the carrier oxide are present in nanoparticular form. Said catalyst has the function of the simultaneous removal of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons from oxygen-rich exhaust gases.
