Disclosed herein is a composition for promoting hair growth. The composition comprises an Asiasari Radix extract as an active ingredient wherein the Asiasari Radix extract exhibits superior induction of the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle. The composition exhibits excellent hair loss prevention and hair growth promoting effects. In particular, when the composition further comprises an inhibitor of 5.alpha.-reductase activity and an activator of hair follicle cells, it exhibits better hair loss prevention and hair growth promoting effects.
