Abstract
A handheld device for personal use for communication with electronic labels (11) in an ESL system comprises, in addition to control means (55), memory means (61), transmission means (57) for transmitting a command to the electronic label, and one or more buttons (53, 53') for user input, a receiver (63) for receiving informa-tion from a central unit (1) in the system. The information may comprise new com-mands, or an authorization code that may be included in commands sent to the labels for authorization of the handheld device.
