Abstract
This invention relates to a process of stereoselectively synthesizing an alcohol of the following formula: wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 are defined in the specification. The process includes reacting (R) 4-formyl-2,2-dimethyldioxolane with .alpha.-bromoacetate in the presence of Zn and a Zn activating agent.
