This invention relates to a method for inhibiting the reaction of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated aldehyde with a biological molecule, the method including the step of administering hydralazine and/or dihydralazine in an amount that is effective to reduce the rate of reaction of the .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated aldehyde with the biological molecule.
