Composition for preventing the formation of new scar, e.g. myofibroblast, having BMP-7 polypeptide is disclosed. The composition for preventing the formation of scar includes an effective amount of BMP-7 (Bone Morphogenic Protein-7) polypeptide of sequence 1. The effective amount is 50 ng/ml-50 .mu.g/ml or 0.1 ng-1 .mu.g/kg by weight and the scar is a corneal scar.
