A process for producing an extract of ivy leaves using an extracting agent, with the extract comprising .alpha.-hederin. In this process, a quantity of dried ivy leaves is first of all comminuted, then fermented by adding water and subsequently extracted by adding the extracting agent; finally, the extract is dried.
