Abstract
A pigment composition contains aluminium metal-based particles (p), the particles (p) including a surface oxidation layer having an average thickness of at least 5 nm. In addition, the aforementioned particles (p) are coated with a protective layer having hydrocarbon chains R which are linked to the surface of the particles (p) by [particle]-Al--O--Si--R linkages. The invention also relates to method of preparing the inventive pigment compositions as well as the use thereof, in particular, for the formulation of water-based metallic paints.
