Abstract
The present invention relates to stable compositions comprising .alpha.-and .beta.-chitosan and derivatives thereof for controlled absorption and/or coagulation of fluids from a wound or bleeding site. The invention further provides methods for preparing these stable compositions and articles of manufacture comprising these compositions. The stable compositions of the present invention are particularly useful in methods for treatment of open wounds or bleeding sites in a mammal using disposable medical and personal care articles that require controlled absorption, hemostasis, and tensile strength.
