Abstract
An apparatus including a brachium cuff 40 worn on a brachium of a patient, an ankle cuff 20 worn on an ankle of the patient, and a cuff pressure changing device 70 that slowly changes, in a blood pressure measuring operation, respective pressing pressures of the brachium and ankle cuffs 40, 20, while keeping the respective pressing pressures equal to each other. The apparatus additionally includes a pulse wave propagation velocity determining means 78 that determines a pulse wave propagation velocity PWV based on brachium and ankle pulse waves that are detected by the brachium and ankle cuffs 40, 20, respectively, when the respective pressing pressures of the brachium and ankle cuffs 40, 20 are equal to a systolic blood pressure of the brachium of the patient.
