A salt-like chemical compound of the formula (I), (C.sub.6R.sup.1.sub.5).sub.3MR.sup.2 (I) where R.sup.1 are identical or different and are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, C.sub.1-C.sub.20-alkyl, C.sub.6-C.sub.14-aryl, C.sub.1-C.sub.10-alkoxy, C.sub.2-C.sub.10-alkenyl, C.sub.7-C.sub.20-arylalkyl, C.sub.7-C.sub.20-alkylaryl, C.sub.6-C.sub.10-aryloxy, C.sub.1-C.sub.10-haloalkyl, C.sub.6-C.sub.10-haloaryl, C.sub.2-C.sub.10-alkynyl or C.sub.3-C.sub.20-alkylsilyl, M is an element of main group III of the Periodic Table of the Elements, and R.sup.2 is a substituted or unsubstituted heterocycle, can be used in catalyst systems for preparing polyolefins.
