A coating composition comprising pigment, medium and binder comprising a poly(C.sub.3-18-hydrocarbyl mono guanidine) and characterised in that the weight ratio of pigment to binder in the composition is at least 2:1. Also a recording material comprising this composition, a process for forming the recording material, and an ink-jet printing process utilizing the recording material.
