Abstract
In certain embodiments, the invention is directed to a pharmaceutical dosage form consisting essentially of a single phase matrix comprising metformin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and at least one controlled release excipient; said dosage form providing a mean T.sub.max of metformin from about 3 to about 12 hours after administration to human patients.
