Abstract
The present invention discloses a method for producing plastic optical member comprising a core region and a clad region. The method comprises carrying out polymerization of a polymerizable monomer, thereby obtaining an area corresponding to the core region. The Polymerization is carried out in the presence of a polymerization initiator having a ten-hour, half-life decomposition temperature T.sub.h (.degree. C.) (T.sub.b-20.ltoreq.T.sub.h; T.sub.b is the boiling point (.degree. C.) of the polymerizable monomer), at an initial polymerization temperature T.sub.1 (.degree. C.) (T.sub.b-10.ltoreq.T.sub.1.ltoreq.T.sub.g; T.sub.g is the glass transition point (.degree. C.) of the polymer made of the polymerizable monomer), for a period which is equal to or longer than 10% of the half-life of the polymerization initiator at T.sub.1; and further carried out at an elevated temperature T.sub.2 (.degree. C.) (T.sub.g.ltoreq.T.sub.2 and T.sub.1
