A drug formulation for gastrointestinal deposition, said formulation comprising a free flowing plurality of particles comprising an active agent and a water-soluble excipient, wherein the particles have a mean diameter of greater than about 10 .right brkt-bot.m to about 1 mm, and the formulation is capable of dissolving or dispersing in a patient's mouth within 1 minute after administration without the co-administration of a fluid.
