Abstract
One of the aspects of the present invention is directed to tetramic acid derivatives useful in treating or preventing bacterial diseases, especially diseases caused by gram-positive pathogens resistant to antibiotics of the prior art. Within the scope of the present invention are pharmaceutical compositions containing at least one of the tetramic acid derivatives of the invention as the active ingredient, methods of treating and/or preventing a bacterial disease by administering at least one of the tetramic acid derivatives of the invention, and the use of the tetramic acid derivatives of the invention in the treatment and/or prevention of a bacterial disease. Preferably, the tetramic acid derivative of the invention is a compound of formula IV shown below. 1
