Abstract
The apparatus (20) comprises a substantially cylindrical rotatable body (26) disposed coaxially within a retaining means (28), drive means (22) for rotating the rotatable body, control means for controlling the speed of the rotatable body, current measurement means for measuring the electric current supplied to the drive means, and means for converting the current measurement into a viscosity measurement. The bore (32a) of the retaining means (28) is of a complementary shape to the rotatable body (26), and the bore (32a) and the rotatable body (26) are dimensioned and spaced apart radially so as to form an annular gap (40) extending axially therebetween to receive the liquid (18). The rotatable body has a spiralled groove formed thereon so that liquid may be more easily transported into the gap between the rotatable body and the retaining means, thereby facilitating the measurement of small liquid samples.
