A method for the transfer of molecules into cells and apparatus for performing the method. A medium in which cells and molecules to be transferred into the cells are located is moved within a hollow cylindrical device for generating acoustic, cavitation-inducing pulses relative to an area which the acoustic pulses occur in a focused manner.
