The present invention relates to a method of stripping an optical fiber, the method comprising the steps consisting in: locally and mechanically removing a portion of the outer covering of the fiber; placing a chemical solvent on the periphery of said zone of the fiber; and mechanically removing the covering(s) weakened in this way.
